Malta, NY, March 23, 2012 – In a continued effort to raise the bar in home performance contracting, the Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) announces two new accreditation options for HVAC contracting companies.

BPI is the nation’s premier developer of technical standards for residential energy efficiency retrofit work. From these standards, we develop accreditation for contracting companies, professional credentials for individuals, and a rigorous quality assurance program that raise the bar in home performance contracting.

BPI recognizes the specialized training and work experience HVAC contractors bring to the home performance industry, and has established eligibility criteria for HVAC companies to achieve BPI Accredited Contractor status that reflects this background. This criteria draws upon the independent certification program administered by North American Technician Excellence (NATE) or the National Oilheat Research Alliance’s (NORA’s) training and independent certification program.

=ts for BPI accreditation of HVAC contractors include the following: The company must employ at least one staff member with the following certifications (or at least two staff members each of whom have one or the other below): BPI Building Analyst certification; plus NATE (Oil or Gas Service or Installation certifications); or NORA (Silver or Gold certification)

All other application requirements follow standard procedures for BPI accreditation. Click here to learn more about the benefits of BPI accreditation. To apply for BPI accreditation, please contact Carol Ohnsman, Manager of Accreditation, at cohnsman@bpi.org or by phone at 1-877-274-1274 ext 109.

The heart of home performance is the house as a system, and HVAC is a critical component that keeps that heart beating efficiently, safely and affordably. We look forward to working closely with HVAC contractors to help expand their scope of work and bring valuable energy efficiency services to their customers.
