Legislation calling for aggressive reductions in carbon emissions has been adopted throughout states in the northeast.  The Oil Heat Industry has committed to meet this challenge by unanimously ratifying a resolution put forth by The National Energy & Fuels Institute (NEFI) calling for a 15% reduction in carbon emissions by 2023, followed by a 40% reduction by 2030 and Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Bio Fuel blends with increased levels of bio content meet these challenges and create a path forward for the industry. B20 Bio fuel, for which the Carlin burner is now approved, meets the first target of a 15% carbon reduction.

Best Practices

Proper Filtration

The National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) recommends single pipe oil systems and high-quality filtration for all fuel types. This should include at least a 10 micron Spin-on filter. Double filtration provides even greater assurance clean fuel will get to the pump. Contaminants in the tank that enter the fuel supply to the burner can cause pump sticking/seizing. These contaminants may increase in the early stages of transitioning to modern fuels (Ultra Low Sulfur and Bio Blends). High quality filtration adds protection against pump sticking

Annual Maintenance

We recommend a tune-up of your HVAC system at least once a year to keep everything running at peak efficiency. Ideally, this should be scheduled in the summer months to confirm your system is ready to go before heating season (October – February) arrives.

Freeze Protection

Central heating systems are prone to shut down as a result of power or fuel outages, safety related fault conditions or equipment failure. Installation of freeze protection monitoring or other precautions is recommended for unattended dwellings in climates subject to sustained below-freezing temperatures.
